Our story
Byron and Byron was created in 1984 by a young Italian, Orazio Gualtieri. Armed with a knowledge of wood finishing and fine art framing and unable to find a suitable pole for his own home, he set out to create a collection of curtain poles that would be worthy of the beautiful soft furnishings that were widely available.
Fundamental from the start was the ability to have control over the whole process from design to manufacture. A steadfast commitment to the process of "making", the craftsmanship involved in achieving beautiful finishes and the expertise required to solve technical problems has always been key.
Although the company now works from rather larger, more mechanised premises the skills required to create beautiful products are still retained in-house. The focus is on retaining and nurturing skills that are becoming scarce whilst embracing new technology and innovation where appropriate.
Having an army of gilders, technicians and craftspeople working on-site, every day, is a luxury that facilitates the ability to respond to new trends, colours and technical advances at speed. It also puts us in a position to be able to offer a uniquely bespoke service to the requirements of our customers. There is very little, made of wood, that we cannot make!
Still very much an independent, family-run business with Orazio at the helm, we can now bank our forty years of knowledge and experience. Our passion and enthusiasm for the product remains undimmed as does our quest to overcome any new challenges, technical or artistic, that we may encounter now or in the future.

"What is the point of spending a lot of thought, time and money on a pair of beautiful curtains only to hang them off an indifferent pole"
